No one loves beautiful things, including fashion, more than me. But the world has felt so expensive lately. It’s definitely given me pause over my purchasing, clothing included.

I always make a few seasonal additions, whether high or low, just for fun, but I’m evaluating them all a little differently this year. I call it my hedonic recalibration, a little adjusting with the times right now. Whatever it is, I’m determined to have a little fun with it.

As we move into summer, I’m sharing the very best fashion trends I see coming our way this season. The originals, some more expensive things too, yes, because they’re gorgeous—in case you’re adding a few key pieces—plus, I’m sharing the very best, and I mean almost identical, looks for less.

Designer clothing will always get first credit from me for its design, craftsmanship, and materiality, but there are some incredibly good looks for less these days. With essentially zero compromise.

While I always seek out key pieces that are investment-worthy, especially the things I’ll use over multiple seasons, there’s a whole other equation I make for pieces that simply don’t represent that same lasting promise, especially when it feels more like a seasonal trend.

That’s when I love to play the high/low game. And I’ve got to admit, I’ve always done it, so this economic moment—and this season—isn’t much of a stretch for me. I’ve always mixed everything I wear with vintage, off-the-rack pieces, and even discount finds. And no one, and I mean no one, has ever questioned what I’m wearing. In fact, I’d go so far as to say I feel like everyone’s just now catching on to every fashion girl’s greatest secret.

So without further ado, here are some of the biggest looks for summer—and what I’m coveting:

Slipping Into Summer

We saw silk, satin, and plenty of sheers play out through spring, and that momentum isn’t letting up for summer. Slip dressing—meaning anything in satin, lace, or even touched with a few sequins—will remain strong through the warmer months.

While lengths for summer shorts always fluctuate, Bermuda styles are definitely strong this season. A more dressed-up denim version is particularly on trend. But truly, a longer short in almost any color or style—even retro athletic styles in cotton or linen—will elevate your short game.

Everyone needs a great summer hat. And if you love hats as much as I do, that probably means you’ve collected them over the years, so you’ve got more than one. Even during the summer months, you get rain and cool evenings when you want something light to throw over your shoulders. And when it makes a statement—what great coat doesn’t?—even better. This year, whether in the classic long version or a shorter cropped style, the trench rolls straight from spring into summer. Try wearing it over white to keep the look light and fresh instead of pairing it with denim.

Summer Shoe Looks

Shoe styles this season run across a wide spectrum, but what continues to have staying power are clean, modern lines. With a few exceptions—some fishnet and mesh details, plus the return of the feminine kitten heel. We first saw this more architectural approach to footwear come into vogue a few years ago with The Row, and the trend has held strong ever since.
